EMISSHIP intends to respond to the challenges referred by bringing together academics from 3 institutions with multidisciplinary expertise. EMISSHIP is coordinated by LEPABE – FEUP
LEPABE is a research unit operating in the fields of Chemical, Environmental and Biological Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto (FEUP).
LEPABE is focused on generating scientific knowledge through interdisciplinary research. The Air Quality team is integrated the Environmental Sciences and Technologies research group and has more than 20 years of expertise on the assessment and management of air quality and atmospheric emissions and on the evaluation of their impact on public health.
The mission of the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) is to produce high-quality observation and research data on the atmosphere and seas. FMI is involved in modelling of atmospheric compounds in micro to global scales. The group develops and evaluates the full range of air pollution dispersion, exposure, and emission models, and other mathematical modelling techniques. FMI has been in the forefront of the development with the Ship Traffic Emission Assessment Model (STEAM) which can provide fully dynamic ship emission inventories which reflecting changes in vessel routing and operation.
The University of Cádiz (UCA) is the only university in Andalusia, and one of the few in Spain, to offer degrees in Nautical Science, Naval Technical Engineering and Oceanic Science. The Environmental Technologies (TMA) group, where UCA team is integrated is currently formed by a multidisciplinary group of researchers counting more than 40 people including professors, research fellows and administrative staff and services. Quality in the TMA group research has been reflected in the Andalusian Research Plan for several years, having been awarded with the “Group of Excellence” award.
